We are really excited about the next webinar in our Family Leadership Series which takes place on Friday 26th March from 11:00am – 12:30pm. The topic of this webinar is: ‘Family advocacy: Speak up, speak out and stay connected’. Do you find it hard to speak up for the person with disability in your family? This webinar will help families understand why it is important to speak up and speak out, what is important and how best to use their energy. If life is a marathon, not a sprint, where does the energy for our advocacy come from? Marg and Jeremy Ward will share with us how they stayed focused, and why it was important to be there, strong and clear as ever throughout their daughter’s life.Jeremy and Margaret Ward are parents from Brisbane, whose eldest daughter, Mena, lived with disability and required support to live in her own home, which she did successfully for over 10 years. Jeremy and Margaret have many years’ experience in disability advocacy, in the law as it relates to people with disabilities, and in assisting families to plan for the future. Jeremy is the author of ‘The Shouted Goodbye’, Jeremy’s account of Mena’s life, which was published in 2015. Participants will have opportunities to ask questions and a list of resources to support family advocacy will be available afterwards to all participants. This webinar is for families with children/young people with an intellectual disability and/or autism who are pursuing an inclusive life for their child.
