The next webinar in our Family Leadership Series ‘Creating community in the street where you live’ with Cormac Russell takes place from 11.00am -12.30pm on the 28th May.

What has been greatly underlined by the past year is that only by acting locally can we build the social alliances that keep us safe and fully functioning as communities.

Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) is an approach to sustainable community-driven development that builds on the assets that are found in the community. It mobilizes individuals, associations, and institutions to come together to realise and develop their strengths.

This makes it different to a deficit-based approach that focuses on identifying and servicing needs. Its premise is that communities can drive the development process themselves by identifying and mobilizing existing, but often unrecognised assets. Thereby responding to challenges and cultivating a culture of care and connection and of increased belonging and inclusion.

Cormac Russell will help us explore the power and potential of community-led development and the importance of focusing on community solutions – not systems and programs.
