The Centre for Disability Law and Policy (CDLP) hosted a workshop for Irish organisations who wanted to prepare a submission for the UNCRPD Committee List of Issues for Ireland.

The List of Issues is an important step in the UN reporting process. In September 2025 the UNCRPD Committee will finalise a written list of questions they will send to the Irish government about their efforts to uphold the rights in the UNCRPD. Civil society organisations can make submissions to the UNCRPD Committee before the List of Issues is finalised. This includes suggesting questions the UNCRPD Committee should ask the Irish government regarding its obligations under the UNCRPD.

We were glad to attend the workshop held at the University of Galway on 19–20 June, which brought together organisations working to shape Ireland’s submission to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities for the 2025 List of Issues

Leap’s contribution focused on Article 19, living independently and being included in the community, Article 24 Education, and Article 27 Work and Employment. These are critical areas where Ireland must do more to uphold the rights of disabled people.

We’re proud to be part of the collective push for real accountability and implementation of the UNCRPD in Ireland.
