What we Do
Why was Leap set up?
Leap is a family led organisation that supports families to build a vision of a good life and focus on relationships, belonging and socially valued roles for their family member with a disability.
Families who have a family member with a disability need to be supported to not only survive but to thrive. To achieve this we explore the idea of what a “good life” looks like with families.
We support families to develop a strong and compelling vision of a good life. We do this to counter the culturally held low expectations of people with disabilities.
Research shows that the less natural supports people have in their lives the more vulnerable they are. We all need people in our lives who really care about us.
We encourage families to aim high and to focus on an ordinary life with valued roles.
We believe that independent planning from an early age supports healthier transitions through school and into adult life and helps families feel more supported and connected, helping them to build better lives for their family member.
